Restoring the Hebrew Names of God (Elohim)

In 1996, we were introduced to the Hebrew names of God and His Son, the Messiah, during a community Passover Seder. Later in 2005, we learned that Greek names had been inserted and taught as God’s names instead of His original Hebrew names! Of course, when we asked about the Hebrew names, well-meaning pastors and teachers would tell us things like: “We don’t speak Hebrew anymore, so we say His name in English”, or “God knows your heart”, or some other platitude meant to assuage our curiosity.

However, our hearts wanted to know why God’s name had changed, so we applied ourselves to study Christian history and biblical Hebrew until we were convinced the adversary (satan) had been deceiving us, the believers in Messiah, by replacing God's spoken Hebrew name (Exod 3:14) with other names from other languages.

Our personal conviction is to speak and sing the Hebrew names of God, whenever possible, to help restore them. That is why the lyrics in our original songs mostly use the Hebrew names of God instead of English pronunciations. On the other hand, we do not judge other believers who say English or Greek names, as we are accountable to our Maker for what He reveals of Himself to us. We are at varying levels of faith, so what we believe today may change as we mature in faith. Yet, the only constant in our lives is יהוה (Yahuah), who says He never changes! 🕎

The Father, Creator of the Universe, the Most High, the name spoken to Moses:
יהוה (Yod Hey Waw Hey, Hebrew characters)
Pronunciations: Yahwah, Yahuah, Yehovah, Yah, etc.

The Messiah, the Son of God (Elohim), the name the angel gave to Mary (Miriam):
   יֵשׁוּעַ
    Pronunciations: Yeshua, Yehoshua, etc.
